तथा स्म तेषां वसतामृक्षवानररक्षसाम्। राघवस्तु महातेजाः सुग्रीवमिदमब्रवीत्॥
tathā sma teṣāṃ vasatāmṛkṣavānararakṣasām| rāghavastu mahātejāḥ sugrīvamidamabravīt||
In this wise, the monkeys, bears and Rākşasas spent their days in Ayodhyä. Thereupon the highly effulgent Rāma, the descendant of Raghu said to Sugrīva.

गम्यतां सौम्य किष्किन्धां दुराधर्षां सुरासुरैः। पालयस्व सहामात्यै राज्यं निहतकण्टकम्॥
gamyatāṃ saumya kiṣkindhāṃ durādharṣāṃ surāsuraiḥ| pālayasva sahāmātyai rājyaṃ nihatakaṇṭakam||
"O gentle one, proceeding to the city of Kiş kindhă, hard to be got at by the celestials and Asuras, do you reign there undisturbed with your councillors.

अङ्गदं च महाबाहो प्रीत्या परमया युतः। पश्य त्वं हनुमन्तं च नलं च सुमहाबलम्॥ सुषेणं श्वशुरं वीरं तारं च बलिनां वरम्। कुमुदं चैव दुर्धर्षं नीलं चैव मबालम्॥ वीरं शतबलिं चैव मैन्दं द्विविदमेव च। गजं गवाक्षं गवयं शरभं च महाबलम्॥ ऋक्षराज च दुर्धर्षं जाम्बवन्तं महाबलम्। पश्य प्रीतिसमायुक्तो गन्धमादनमेव च॥ ऋषभं च सुविक्रान्तं प्लवंगं च सुपाटलम्। केसरि शरभं शुम्भं शङ्खचूडं महाबलम्॥ ये ये मे सुमहात्मानो मदर्थे त्यक्तजीविताः। पश्य त्वं प्रीतिसंयुक्तो मा चैषां विप्रियं कृथाः॥
aṅgadaṃ ca mahābāho prītyā paramayā yutaḥ| paśya tvaṃ hanumantaṃ ca nalaṃ ca sumahābalam|| suṣeṇaṃ śvaśuraṃ vīraṃ tāraṃ ca balināṃ varam| kumudaṃ caiva durdharṣaṃ nīlaṃ caiva mabālam|| vīraṃ śatabaliṃ caiva maindaṃ dvividameva ca| gajaṃ gavākṣaṃ gavayaṃ śarabhaṃ ca mahābalam|| ṛkṣarāja ca durdharṣaṃ jāmbavantaṃ mahābalam| paśya prītisamāyukto gandhamādanameva ca|| ṛṣabhaṃ ca suvikrāntaṃ plavaṃgaṃ ca supāṭalam| kesari śarabhaṃ śumbhaṃ śaṅkhacūḍaṃ mahābalam|| ye ye me sumahātmāno madarthe tyaktajīvitāḥ| paśya tvaṃ prītisaṃyukto mā caiṣāṃ vipriyaṃ kṛthāḥ||
O you having long arms, always look towards Angada, with loving eyes. Do you, O Sugrīva, protect lovingly the highly powerful Hanumán, Nala, your father-in-law Sușeņa, the mighty Tara, intepressible Kumati, the powerful Nila, the heroic Satabali, Mainda, Dvivida, Gaya, Gavaksa, Gavaya, Sarabha, the irrepressible and powerful king of bears Jambavan, Gandhamadana, valiant valiant Rşabha, Supätala, Kesari, Sarabha and Sumbha and mighty Śankhacūda, these and other heroic monkeys who dedicated their lives to my service. Do you never act to there displeasure.

एवमुक्त्वा च सुग्रीवमाश्लिष्य च पुनः पुनः। विभीषणमुवाचाथ रामो मधुरया गिरा।९।।
evamuktvā ca sugrīvamāśliṣya ca punaḥ punaḥ| vibhīṣaṇamuvācātha rāmo madhurayā girā|9||
Having said this and embraced Sugrīva again and again Rāma addressed Vibhișana with sweet accents.

लङ्कां प्रशाधि धर्मेण धर्मज्ञस्त्वं मतो मम। पुरस्य राक्षसानां च भ्रातुर्वैश्रवणस्य च॥ मा च बुद्धिमधर्मे त्वं कुर्या राजन्कथंचन। बुद्धिमन्तो हि राजानो ध्रुवमश्नन्ति मेदिनीम्॥
laṅkāṃ praśādhi dharmeṇa dharmajñastvaṃ mato mama| purasya rākṣasānāṃ ca bhrāturvaiśravaṇasya ca|| mā ca buddhimadharme tvaṃ kuryā rājankathaṃcana| buddhimanto hi rājāno dhruvamaśnanti medinīm||
I know, you are cognisant of piety; the citizens, your councillors and your brother Kubera also love you; do you therefore go and govern Lankā piously, O king; never cherish any vile intention; the honest kings always enjoy the earth.

अहं च नित्यशो राजन्सुग्रीवसहितस्त्वया। स्मर्तव्यः परया प्रीत्या गच्छ त्वं विगतज्वरः॥
ahaṃ ca nityaśo rājansugrīvasahitastvayā| smartavyaḥ parayā prītyā gaccha tvaṃ vigatajvaraḥ||
And my only request to you, O king, is that you may with love remember me and Sugriva. Do you now proceed, divested of sorrow.

रामस्य भाषितं श्रुत्वा ऋक्षवानरराक्षसाः। साधुसाध्विति काकुत्स्थं प्रशशंसुः पुनः पुनः॥ तव बुद्धिर्महाबाहो वीर्यमद्भुतमेव च। माधुर्यं परमं राम स्वयंभोरिव नित्यदा॥
rāmasya bhāṣitaṃ śrutvā ṛkṣavānararākṣasāḥ| sādhusādhviti kākutsthaṃ praśaśaṃsuḥ punaḥ punaḥ|| tava buddhirmahābāho vīryamadbhutameva ca| mādhuryaṃ paramaṃ rāma svayaṃbhoriva nityadā||
Hearing the words of Rama, the bears, monkeys and Rākşasas repeatedly exclaimed glory to Rāma and said. 'O Rāma, having long arms, your understanding resemble that of the Self-Sprung, your prowess is equally wonderful and your beauty is also par excellence.”

तेषामेवं ब्रुवाणानां वानराणां च रक्षसाम्। हनूमान्प्रणतो भूत्वा राघवं वाक्यमब्रवीत्॥ स्नेहो मे परमो राजंस्त्वयि तिष्ठतु नित्यदा। भक्तिश्च नियता वीर भावो नान्यत्र गच्छतु॥ यावद्रामकथा वीर चरिष्यति महीतले। तावच्छरीरे वत्स्यन्तु प्राणा मम न संशयः॥
teṣāmevaṃ bruvāṇānāṃ vānarāṇāṃ ca rakṣasām| hanūmānpraṇato bhūtvā rāghavaṃ vākyamabravīt|| sneho me paramo rājaṃstvayi tiṣṭhatu nityadā| bhaktiśca niyatā vīra bhāvo nānyatra gacchatu|| yāvadrāmakathā vīra cariṣyati mahītale| tāvaccharīre vatsyantu prāṇā mama na saṃśayaḥ||
The monkeys and Rakşasas having said this, Hanuman bowing, said to Rama "May my loving reverence be always in you, O king; may my devotion to you remain unshaken, O hero; and may my mind be not attached to any other thing. May my life remain in my body as long as the stories of Rama shall be in currency on earth. Let not this prove otherwise.

यच्चैतच्चरितं दिव्यं कथा ते रघुनन्दन। तन्मयाप्सरसो राम श्रावयेयुर्नरर्षभ॥
yaccaitaccaritaṃ divyaṃ kathā te raghunandana| tanmayāpsaraso rāma śrāvayeyurnararṣabha||
O foremost of men, O descendant of Raghu, may the Apsarās make me always hear of your themes.

तच्छ्रुत्वाहं ततो वीर तव चर्यामृतं प्रभो। उत्कण्ठां तां हरिष्यामि मेघलेखामिवानलिः॥
tacchrutvāhaṃ tato vīra tava caryāmṛtaṃ prabho| utkaṇṭhāṃ tāṃ hariṣyāmi meghalekhāmivānaliḥ||
O hero, as the winds scatter the cloud so I shall remove my anxiety by listening to your nectar-like themes.

एवं ब्रुवाणं रामस्तु हनूमन्तं वरासनात्। उत्थाय सस्वजे स्नेहाद्वाक्यमेतदुवाच ह॥
evaṃ bruvāṇaṃ rāmastu hanūmantaṃ varāsanāt| utthāya sasvaje snehādvākyametaduvāca ha||
After Hanumān had said this, Rāma rose up from his throne and having embraced Hanumān affectionately said.

एवमेतत्कपिश्रेष्ठ भविता नात्र संशयः। चरिष्यति कथा यावदेषा लोके च मामिका॥ तावचे भविता कीर्तिः शरीरेऽप्यसवस्तथा। लोका हि यावत्स्थास्यन्ति तावत्स्थास्यन्ति मे कथाः।। एकैकस्योपकारस्य प्राणान्दास्यामि ते कये। शेषस्येहोपकाराणां भवाम ऋणिनो वयम्॥ मदङ्गे जीर्णतां यातु यत्त्वयोपकृतं कपे। नरः प्रत्युपकाराणामापत्स्वायाति पात्रताम्।।२४
evametatkapiśreṣṭha bhavitā nātra saṃśayaḥ| cariṣyati kathā yāvadeṣā loke ca māmikā|| tāvace bhavitā kīrtiḥ śarīre'pyasavastathā| lokā hi yāvatsthāsyanti tāvatsthāsyanti me kathāḥ|| ekaikasyopakārasya prāṇāndāsyāmi te kaye| śeṣasyehopakārāṇāṃ bhavāma ṛṇino vayam|| madaṅge jīrṇatāṃ yātu yattvayopakṛtaṃ kape| naraḥ pratyupakārāṇāmāpatsvāyāti pātratām||24
O foremost of monkeys, what you have said, shall undoubtedly be carried out into action. As long as my stories shall be current on earth your fame shall exist and life shall in your body. And as long as the world shall exist my themes shall be related. I cannot, even at the sacrifice of my life, release myself from the debts of one good service out of the many, you have done for me, O monkey; and I shall for ever remain indebted to you for your last benefaction. Of let them wear out in me, for men, at the time of danger, become worthy of having their benefits returned.

ततोऽस्य हारं चन्द्राभं मुच्य कण्ठात्स राघवः। वैदूर्यतरलं कण्ठे बबन्ध च हनूमतः॥
tato'sya hāraṃ candrābhaṃ mucya kaṇṭhātsa rāghavaḥ| vaidūryataralaṃ kaṇṭhe babandha ca hanūmataḥ||
Having said this, Rāma took off from his neck a chain 'set with sapphires brilliant as the rays of the moon and placed it round the neck of Hanuman.

तेनोरसि निबद्धेन हारेण महता कपिः। रराज हेमशैलेन्द्रश्चन्द्रेणाक्रान्तमस्तकः॥
tenorasi nibaddhena hāreṇa mahatā kapiḥ| rarāja hemaśailendraścandreṇākrāntamastakaḥ||
Like to the mountain Sumeru beautified by the rising of the moon on its summit, Hanumān, the foremost of monkeys, appeared graceful with the chain placed on his breast.

श्रुत्वा तु राघवस्यैतदुत्थायोत्थाय वानराः। प्रणम्य शिरसा पादौ निर्जग्मुस्ते महाबलाः॥
śrutvā tu rāghavasyaitadutthāyotthāya vānarāḥ| praṇamya śirasā pādau nirjagmuste mahābalāḥ||
And hearing the words of Rāghava, the highly powerful monkeys, one by one, saluted Rāma, touching his feet and went away.

सुग्रीवः स च रामेण निरन्तरमुरोगतः। बिभीषणश्च धर्मात्मा सर्वे ते बाष्पविक्लवाः।२८॥
sugrīvaḥ sa ca rāmeṇa nirantaramurogataḥ| bibhīṣaṇaśca dharmātmā sarve te bāṣpaviklavāḥ|28||
Both Sugrīva and the virtuous-souled Vibhīşaņa embraced Rāma and three of them were beside themselves with tears.

सर्वे च ते बाष्पकलाः साश्रुनेत्रा विचेतसः। संमूढा इव दुःखेन त्यजन्तो राघवं तदा॥
sarve ca te bāṣpakalāḥ sāśrunetrā vicetasaḥ| saṃmūḍhā iva duḥkhena tyajanto rāghavaṃ tadā||
And other monkeys and Rākşasas were all moved with tears and sorrow to take leave of Rāma,

कृतप्रसादास्तेनैवं राघवेण महात्मना। जग्मुः स्वं स्वं गृहं सर्वे देही देहमिव त्यजन्।।३०
kṛtaprasādāstenaivaṃ rāghaveṇa mahātmanā| jagmuḥ svaṃ svaṃ gṛhaṃ sarve dehī dehamiva tyajan||30
Having received favours thus from the highsouled Rāghava, the monkeys went away to their own houses like-to bodied creatures leaving of their bodies.

ततस्तु ते राक्षसऋक्षवानराः प्रणम्य रामं रघुवंशवर्धनम्। वियोगजाश्रुप्रतिपूर्णलोचनाः प्रति प्रयातास्तु यथा निवासिनः॥
tatastu te rākṣasaṛkṣavānarāḥ praṇamya rāmaṃ raghuvaṃśavardhanam| viyogajāśrupratipūrṇalocanāḥ prati prayātāstu yathā nivāsinaḥ||
Thereupon the Rākşasas, bears, monkeys, having bowed to Rāma, the glory of the Raghu family and with their eyes full of tears consequent upon his separation, went away to the countries from which they had hailed.
