सुग्रीवेणैवमुक्तस्तु हृष्टो दधिमुखः कपिः। राघवं लक्ष्मणं चैव सुग्रीवं चाभ्यवादयत्॥
sugrīveṇaivamuktastu hṛṣṭo dadhimukhaḥ kapiḥ| rāghavaṃ lakṣmaṇaṃ caiva sugrīvaṃ cābhyavādayat||
Being thus addressed by Sugrīva, the monkey Dadhimuklia, delighted, bowed to him, Rāghava and Laksmana.

स प्रणम्य च सुग्रीवं राघवौ च महाबलौ। वानरैः सहितः शूरैर्दिवमेवोत्पपात ह॥
sa praṇamya ca sugrīvaṃ rāghavau ca mahābalau| vānaraiḥ sahitaḥ śūrairdivamevotpapāta ha||
And adoring Sugrīva and the highly powerful descendants of Raghu, he along with other heroic monkeys, leaped up in the sky.

स यथैवागतः पूर्वं तथैव त्वरितं गतः। निपत्य गगनाद् भूमौ तद् वनं प्रविवेश ह॥
sa yathaivāgataḥ pūrvaṃ tathaiva tvaritaṃ gataḥ| nipatya gaganād bhūmau tad vanaṃ praviveśa ha||
He went away with the same speed with which he came and leaping down on the earth from the sky, entered the orchard.

स प्रविष्टो मधुवनं ददर्श हरियूथपान्। विमदानुद्धतान् सर्वान् मेहमानान् मधूदकम्॥
sa praviṣṭo madhuvanaṃ dadarśa hariyūthapān| vimadānuddhatān sarvān mehamānān madhūdakam||
And entering that forest he beheld all the leaders of the monkeys spending the hours delightedly, having passed urine, the outcome of honey.

स तानुपागमद् वीरो बद्ध्वा करपुटाञ्जलिम्। उवाच वचनं श्लक्ष्णमिदं हृष्टवदङ्गदम्॥
sa tānupāgamad vīro baddhvā karapuṭāñjalim| uvāca vacanaṃ ślakṣṇamidaṃ hṛṣṭavadaṅgadam||
And approaching them, the hero, with folded hands and delighted, addressed Angada, with the following words.

सौम्य रोषो न कर्तव्यो यदेभिः परिवारणम्। अज्ञानाद् रक्षिभिः क्रोधाद् भवन्तः प्रतिषेधिताः॥
saumya roṣo na kartavyo yadebhiḥ parivāraṇam| ajñānād rakṣibhiḥ krodhād bhavantaḥ pratiṣedhitāḥ||
O gentle one, do you not take offence, for these monkeys, protecting the garden enraged, unwittingly prevented you.

श्रान्तो दूरादनुप्राप्तो भक्षयस्व स्वकं मधु। युवराजस्त्वमीशश्च वनस्यास्य महाबल ॥
śrānto dūrādanuprāpto bhakṣayasva svakaṃ madhu| yuvarājastvamīśaśca vanasyāsya mahābala ||
O you of great strength, you are worn out with your long journey, do you drink your own honey, you are our prince and the master of this garden.

मौात्पूर्वं कृतो रोषस्तद् भवान् क्षन्तुमर्हति । यथैव हि पिता तेऽभूत् पूर्वं हरिगणेश्वरः॥ तथा त्वमपि सुग्रीवो नान्यस्तु हरिसत्तम।
mauātpūrvaṃ kṛto roṣastad bhavān kṣantumarhati | yathaiva hi pitā te'bhūt pūrvaṃ harigaṇeśvaraḥ|| tathā tvamapi sugrīvo nānyastu harisattama|
It behove you to forgive us for our wrath arising out of ignorance. Like to your sire before, yourself and Sugrīva are the lords of these monkey hosts, O you foremost of them and none else.

आख्यातं हि मया गत्वा पितृव्यस्य तवानघ॥ इहोपयानं सर्वेषामेतेषां वनचारिणाम्। भवदागमनं श्रुत्वा सहैभिर्वनचारिभिः॥ प्रहृष्टो न तु रुष्टोऽसौ वनं श्रुत्वा प्रधर्षितम्।
ākhyātaṃ hi mayā gatvā pitṛvyasya tavānagha|| ihopayānaṃ sarveṣāmeteṣāṃ vanacāriṇām| bhavadāgamanaṃ śrutvā sahaibhirvanacāribhiḥ|| prahṛṣṭo na tu ruṣṭo'sau vanaṃ śrutvā pradharṣitam|
O innocent prince, I have related all about this to your uncle. When I described to him, the arrival of all these forest rangers, as well as of yours accompanied by them, and the destruction of this garden by you all, he was not the least offended, rather delighted.

प्रहृष्टो मां पितृव्यस्ते सुग्रीवो वानरेश्वरः॥ शीघ्रं प्रेषय सर्वांस्तानिति होवाच पार्थिवः।
prahṛṣṭo māṃ pitṛvyaste sugrīvo vānareśvaraḥ|| śīghraṃ preṣaya sarvāṃstāniti hovāca pārthivaḥ|
And worked up with joy your uncle Sugrīva, the lord of earth and monkeys, said “Send them all here speedily."

श्रुत्वा दधिमुखस्यैतद् वचनं श्लक्ष्णमङ्गदः॥ अब्रवीत् तान् हरिश्रेष्ठो वाक्यं वाक्यविशारदः।
śrutvā dadhimukhasyaitad vacanaṃ ślakṣṇamaṅgadaḥ|| abravīt tān hariśreṣṭho vākyaṃ vākyaviśāradaḥ|

शङ्के श्रुतोऽयं वृत्तान्तो रामेण हरियूथपाः॥ अयं च हर्षादाख्याति तेन जानामि हेतुना। तत् क्षमं नेह नः स्थातुं कृते कार्ये परंतपाः॥
śaṅke śruto'yaṃ vṛttānto rāmeṇa hariyūthapāḥ|| ayaṃ ca harṣādākhyāti tena jānāmi hetunā| tat kṣamaṃ neha naḥ sthātuṃ kṛte kārye paraṃtapāḥ||
O you leaders of the monkey hosts, I fear, Rāma has heard all about this. Dadhimukha relates everything joyfully and hence I infer this. And our work finished, O slayer of foes, it dose not behove us to remain here (any longer).

पीत्वा मधु यथाकामं विक्रान्ता वनचारिणः। किं शेषं गमनं तत्र सुग्रीवो यत्र वानरः॥
pītvā madhu yathākāmaṃ vikrāntā vanacāriṇaḥ| kiṃ śeṣaṃ gamanaṃ tatra sugrīvo yatra vānaraḥ||
You have all drunk honey at your pleasure and there is nothing left and you should now go where the monkey king Sugrīva is.

सर्वे यथा मां वक्ष्यन्ति समेत्य हरिपुङ्गवाः। तथास्मि कर्ता कर्तव्ये भवद्भिः परवानहम्॥
sarve yathā māṃ vakṣyanti sametya haripuṅgavāḥ| tathāsmi kartā kartavye bhavadbhiḥ paravānaham||
O leading monkeys, I shall follow what you will in a band desire me to do. In action I am subordinate to you all.

नाज्ञापयितुमीशोऽहं युवराजोऽस्मि यद्यपि। अयुक्तं कृतकर्माणो यूयं धर्षयितुं बलात्॥
nājñāpayitumīśo'haṃ yuvarājo'smi yadyapi| ayuktaṃ kṛtakarmāṇo yūyaṃ dharṣayituṃ balāt||
I am not justified to command although I am a prince. You are all of accomplished actions, it is not proper to repress you forcibly.

ब्रुवतश्चाङ्गदस्यैवं श्रुत्वा वचनमुत्तमम्। प्रहृष्टमनसो वाक्यमिदमूचुर्वनौकसः॥
bruvataścāṅgadasyaivaṃ śrutvā vacanamuttamam| prahṛṣṭamanaso vākyamidamūcurvanaukasaḥ||
Hearing those sweet words of the prince Angada, the monkeys delightedly replied, saying.

एवं वक्ष्यति को राजन् प्रभुः सन् वानरर्षभ। ऐश्वर्यमदमत्तो हि सर्वोऽहमिति मन्यते॥
evaṃ vakṣyati ko rājan prabhuḥ san vānararṣabha| aiśvaryamadamatto hi sarvo'hamiti manyate||
O king, O foremost of monkeys, who else can speak thus being a master? Any one else, we think, is proud of his wealth.

तव चेदं सुसदृशं वाक्यं नान्यस्य कस्यचित्। सन्नतिर्हि तवाख्याति भविष्यच्छुभयोग्यताम् ॥
tava cedaṃ susadṛśaṃ vākyaṃ nānyasya kasyacit| sannatirhi tavākhyāti bhaviṣyacchubhayogyatām ||
Such like words become you only and none else. Your humility speaks of your future greatness.

सर्वे वयमपि प्राप्तास्तत्र गन्तुं कृतक्षणाः। स यत्र हरिवीराणां सुग्रीवः पतिरव्ययः॥
sarve vayamapi prāptāstatra gantuṃ kṛtakṣaṇāḥ| sa yatra harivīrāṇāṃ sugrīvaḥ patiravyayaḥ||
We are all anxious to go there, where Sugriva, the king of the monkeys, is.

त्वया ह्यनुक्तैर्हरिभि व शक्यं पदात् पदम्। क्वचिद् गन्तुं हरिश्रेष्ठ ब्रूमः सत्यमिदं तु ते॥
tvayā hyanuktairharibhi va śakyaṃ padāt padam| kvacid gantuṃ hariśreṣṭha brūmaḥ satyamidaṃ tu te||
Verily we speak to you, O foremost of monkeys, that without your permission, none among us, is capable of advancing a single step.”

एवं तु वदतां तेषामङ्गदः प्रत्यभाषत। साधु गच्छाम इत्युक्त्वा खमुत्पेतुर्महाबलाः॥ उत्पतन्तमनूत्पेतुः सर्वे ते हरियूथपाः। कृत्वाऽऽकाशं निराकाशं यन्त्रोत्क्षिप्ता इवोपलाः॥
evaṃ tu vadatāṃ teṣāmaṅgadaḥ pratyabhāṣata| sādhu gacchāma ityuktvā khamutpeturmahābalāḥ|| utpatantamanūtpetuḥ sarve te hariyūthapāḥ| kṛtvā''kāśaṃ nirākāśaṃ yantrotkṣiptā ivopalāḥ||
They addressing him thus, Angada replied"All right, let us all go.” Saying this he leaped up in the sky and was followed by all those monkeys, clouding the welkin as if with stones thrown up by a tool.

अङ्गदं पुरतः कृत्वा हनूमन्तं च वानरम्। तेऽम्बरं सहसोत्पत्य वेगवन्तः प्लवङ्गमाः॥ विनदन्तो महानादं घना वातेरिता यथा।
aṅgadaṃ purataḥ kṛtvā hanūmantaṃ ca vānaram| te'mbaraṃ sahasotpatya vegavantaḥ plavaṅgamāḥ|| vinadanto mahānādaṃ ghanā vāteritā yathā|
And placing before them Angada and Hanumān, the monkeys leaping vehemently up in the sky roared like to clouds driven by the wind.

अङ्गदे समनुप्राप्ते सुग्रीवो वानरेश्वरः॥ उवाच शोकसंतप्तं रामं कमललोचनम्।
aṅgade samanuprāpte sugrīvo vānareśvaraḥ|| uvāca śokasaṃtaptaṃ rāmaṃ kamalalocanam|
And Angada nearing, Sugrīva, the lord of the monkeys, spoke to the lotus-eyed Rāma, stricken with grief, saying.

समाश्वसिहि भद्रं ते दृष्टा देवी न संशयः॥ नागन्तुमिह शक्यं तैरतीतसमयैरिह।
samāśvasihi bhadraṃ te dṛṣṭā devī na saṃśayaḥ|| nāgantumiha śakyaṃ tairatītasamayairiha|
May good betide you. Do you console yourself. The worshipful dame has been found out; there is not the least doubt about it. Or else they would not have come as the time is already past.

अङ्गदस्य प्रहर्षाच्च जानामि शुभदर्शन ॥ न मत्सकाशमागच्छेत् कृत्ये हि विनिपातिते। युवराजो महाबाहुः प्लवतामङ्गदो वरः॥
aṅgadasya praharṣācca jānāmi śubhadarśana || na matsakāśamāgacchet kṛtye hi vinipātite| yuvarājo mahābāhuḥ plavatāmaṅgado varaḥ||
I (further more) infer this from Angada's joy, O you of auspicious presence. Without being successful in his mission, the large-armed prince, Angada, the foremost of the monkeys, would not have come to me.

यद्यप्यकृतकृत्यानामीदृशः स्यादुपक्रमः। भवेत् तु दीनवदनो भ्रान्तविप्लुतमानसः॥
yadyapyakṛtakṛtyānāmīdṛśaḥ syādupakramaḥ| bhavet tu dīnavadano bhrāntaviplutamānasaḥ||
If the monkeys had engaged in such an unfair proceeding without being successful in their mission, Angada would have looked poorly and his mind would have been overwhelmed with grief and forgetfulness.

पितृपैतामहं चैतत् पूर्वकैरभिरक्षितम्। न मे मधुवनं हन्याददृष्ट्वा जनकात्मजाम्॥
pitṛpaitāmahaṃ caitat pūrvakairabhirakṣitam| na me madhuvanaṃ hanyādadṛṣṭvā janakātmajām||
Without beholding the daughter of the king Janaka they would not have dared to destroy Madhuvana obtained and preserved by my forefathers.

कौसल्या सुप्रजा राम समाश्वसिहि सुव्रत। दृष्टा देवी न संदेहो न चान्येन हनूमता॥
kausalyā suprajā rāma samāśvasihi suvrata| dṛṣṭā devī na saṃdeho na cānyena hanūmatā||
Do you console yourself, O Räma, by whom Kausalyā has become the mother of a good son. O you, rigidly observing any religious vow or obligation, forsooth has Hanumān behold the worshipful dame and none else.

नह्यस्य कर्मणो हेतुः साधने तद्विधो भवेत्। हनूमतीह सिद्धिश्च मतिश्च मतिसत्तम ॥ व्यवसायश्च शौर्यं च श्रुतं चापि प्रतिष्ठितम्। जाम्बवान् यत्र नेता स्यादङ्गदश्च हरीश्वरः॥ हनूमांश्चाप्यधिष्ठाता न तत्र गतिरन्यथा।
nahyasya karmaṇo hetuḥ sādhane tadvidho bhavet| hanūmatīha siddhiśca matiśca matisattama || vyavasāyaśca śauryaṃ ca śrutaṃ cāpi pratiṣṭhitam| jāmbavān yatra netā syādaṅgadaśca harīśvaraḥ|| hanūmāṃścāpyadhiṣṭhātā na tatra gatiranyathā|
No other wight is so qualified an instrument in encompassing this end. O you of excellent intellect, Hanumān know the art of success, is gifted with intellect, perseverance and courage and is versed in Šāstras. That work cannot fail, which is worked out by Jāmbavān and Angada and presided over by Hanumān.

मा भूश्चिन्तासमायुक्तः सम्प्रत्यमितविक्रम॥ यदा हि दर्पितोदग्राः संगताः काननौकसः। नैषामकृतकार्याणामीदृशः स्यादुपक्रमः॥ वनभङ्गेन जानामि मधूनां भक्षणेन च।
mā bhūścintāsamāyuktaḥ sampratyamitavikrama|| yadā hi darpitodagrāḥ saṃgatāḥ kānanaukasaḥ| naiṣāmakṛtakāryāṇāmīdṛśaḥ syādupakramaḥ|| vanabhaṅgena jānāmi madhūnāṃ bhakṣaṇena ca|
Be not laden with anxiety, O you of unmitigated prowess. These monkey have come here excited with pride and drink. They would not have come with such a grandeur had they been but unsuccessful. From their breaking down the orchard and drinking honey I inferred SO.

आयताञ्चितलाकॅलः ततः किलकिलाशब्दं शुश्रावासन्नमम्बरे॥ हनूमत्कर्मदृप्तानां नदतां काननौकसाम्। किष्किन्धामुपयातानां सिद्धिं कथयतामिव ॥
āyatāñcitalākaॅlaḥ tataḥ kilakilāśabdaṃ śuśrāvāsannamambare|| hanūmatkarmadṛptānāṃ nadatāṃ kānanaukasām| kiṣkindhāmupayātānāṃ siddhiṃ kathayatāmiva ||
Thereupon he heard in the sky the joyous sounds of the monkeys proud on account of Hanuman's work, proceeding towards Kişkindhā and as if announcing their success.

ततः श्रुत्वा निनादं तं कपीनां कपिसत्तमः। सोऽभवद्धृष्टमानसः॥
tataḥ śrutvā ninādaṃ taṃ kapīnāṃ kapisattamaḥ| so'bhavaddhṛṣṭamānasaḥ||
Thereupon hearing the noise of these monkeys Sugriva, their chief, being greatly delighted, uplifted his tail.

आजग्मुस्तेऽति हरयो रामदर्शनकाक्षिणः। अङ्गदं पुरतः कृत्वा हनूमन्तं च वानरम्॥

And placing Angada and Hanumān before them those monkeys proceeded to behold Rāma.

तेऽङ्गदप्रमुखा वीराः प्रहृष्टाश्च मुदान्विताः। निपेतुर्हरिराजस्य समीपे राघवस्य च॥
te'ṅgadapramukhā vīrāḥ prahṛṣṭāśca mudānvitāḥ| nipeturharirājasya samīpe rāghavasya ca||
Those heroes headed by Angada, delighted and intoxicated, descended before Rāghava and the lord of the monkeys.

हनूमांश्च महाबाहुः प्रणम्य शिरसा ततः। नियतामक्षतां देवीं राघवाय न्यवेदयत्॥
hanūmāṃśca mahābāhuḥ praṇamya śirasā tataḥ| niyatāmakṣatāṃ devīṃ rāghavāya nyavedayat||
And the mighty-armed Hanumān, lowering his head, related to Rāghava, Sītā's spiritual and physical well-being.

दृष्टा देवीति हनुमद्वदनादमृतोपमम्। आकर्ण्य वचनं रामो हर्षमाप सलक्ष्मणः॥
dṛṣṭā devīti hanumadvadanādamṛtopamam| ākarṇya vacanaṃ rāmo harṣamāpa salakṣmaṇaḥ||
Hearing from Hanumān the sweet words that he had beheld Sītā, Rāma and Lakşmana were greatly delighted.

निश्चितार्थं ततस्तस्मिन् सुग्रीवं पवनात्मजे। लक्ष्मणः प्रीतिमान् प्रीतं बहुमानादवेक्षत॥
niścitārthaṃ tatastasmin sugrīvaṃ pavanātmaje| lakṣmaṇaḥ prītimān prītaṃ bahumānādavekṣata||
And being confirmed thus by the Wind-god's son, Laksmana, greatly pleased, respectfully looked towards Sugriva.

प्रीत्या च परयोपेतो राघवः परवीरहा। बहुमानेन महती हनूमन्तमवैक्षत॥
