The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the literal word of Allah as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through the Angel Jibreel over a period of approximately 23 years, beginning in 610 CE. It comprises 114 chapters known as surahs, which range from the shortest at just three verses to the longest containing 286 verses. The surahs are broadly classified as Meccan or Medinan, reflecting whether they were revealed before or after the Prophet's migration to Medina. Meccan surahs tend to focus on matters of faith and the hereafter, while Medinan surahs often address social laws and community life.
