उत्तरकाण्डः सर्गः 111

एतावदेतदाख्यानं सोत्तरं ब्रह्मपूजितम्। रामायणमिति ख्यातं मुख्यं वाल्मीकिना कृतम्।।१

etāvadetadākhyānaṃ sottaraṃ brahmapūjitam| rāmāyaṇamiti khyātaṃ mukhyaṃ vālmīkinā kṛtam||1

This Story ends with the Uttară. It is held in reverence by Brahmå composed by Vālmīki and passes as the foremost of all under the name of the Ramayana.

ततः प्रतिष्ठितो विष्णुः स्वर्गलोके यथा पुरा। येन व्याप्तमिदं सर्वं त्रैलोक्यं सचराचरम्॥

tataḥ pratiṣṭhito viṣṇuḥ svargaloke yathā purā| yena vyāptamidaṃ sarvaṃ trailokyaṃ sacarācaram||

There upon as before, Visnu, who comprise the three worlds and all objects, mobile and immobile, again established himself as before in the land of immortals.

ततो देवाः सगन्धर्वाः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः। नित्यं शृण्वन्ति संहृष्टाः काव्यं रामायणं दिवि॥

tato devāḥ sagandharvāḥ siddhāśca paramarṣayaḥ| nityaṃ śṛṇvanti saṃhṛṣṭāḥ kāvyaṃ rāmāyaṇaṃ divi||

There upon the celestials the Gandharvas, the great Rșis used to hear happily every day in heaven this poem of Rāmāyaṇa.

इदमाख्यानमायुष्यं सौभाग्यं पापनाशनम्। रामायणं वेदसमं श्राद्धेषु श्रावयेदुधः॥

idamākhyānamāyuṣyaṃ saubhāgyaṃ pāpanāśanam| rāmāyaṇaṃ vedasamaṃ śrāddheṣu śrāvayedudhaḥ||

At the Śrāddha cereinony the wise should chant this Rāmāyaṇa sacred like the Vedas, removing sins and increasing life and prosperity.

अपुत्रो लभते पुत्रमधनो लभते धनम्। सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्येत पादमप्यस्य यः पठेत् ॥

aputro labhate putramadhano labhate dhanam| sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyeta pādamapyasya yaḥ paṭhet ||

Reading even a single verse of this poem, one who has no son, obtain him; one having not riches, gets by them, and people are freed from all sins.

पापान्यपि च यः कुर्यादहन्यहनि मानवः। पठत्येकमपि श्लोकं पापात्स परिमुच्यते॥

pāpānyapi ca yaḥ kuryādahanyahani mānavaḥ| paṭhatyekamapi ślokaṃ pāpātsa parimucyate||

By reading even one slotter people are freed from all sins which they commit everyday.

वाचकाय च दातव्यं वस्त्रं धेनुहिरण्यकम्। वाचके परितुष्टे तु तुष्टाः स्युः सर्वदेवताः॥

vācakāya ca dātavyaṃ vastraṃ dhenuhiraṇyakam| vācake parituṣṭe tu tuṣṭāḥ syuḥ sarvadevatāḥ||

Clothes, cows, and gold should be conferred upon him who chants this poem, for he being pleased all the deities remain satisfied.

एतदाख्यानमायुष्यं पठन्रामायणं नरः। सपुत्रपौत्रो लोकेऽस्मिन्प्रेत्य चेह महीयते॥

etadākhyānamāyuṣyaṃ paṭhanrāmāyaṇaṃ naraḥ| saputrapautro loke'sminpretya ceha mahīyate||

Whoever reads this story of Rāmāyana, conferring a long life is honoured in this world along with his sons and grand-sons and as well as in the land of the dead.

रामायणं गोविसर्गे मध्याह्ने वा समाहितः। सायाह्ने वापराहणे च वाचयन्नावसीदति।९।।

rāmāyaṇaṃ govisarge madhyāhne vā samāhitaḥ| sāyāhne vāparāhaṇe ca vācayannāvasīdati|9||

Whoever shall read this Rāmāyaṇa either in the morning, noon or evening, shall never wearied.

अयोध्यापि पुरी रम्या शून्या वर्षगणान्बहून्। ऋषभं प्राप्य राजानं निवासमुपयास्यति॥

ayodhyāpi purī ramyā śūnyā varṣagaṇānbahūn| ṛṣabhaṃ prāpya rājānaṃ nivāsamupayāsyati||

The picturesque city of Ayodhyā remained devoid of men for many long years but was again peopled under the regime of the King Rsabha.

एतदाख्यानमायुष्यं सभविष्यं सहोत्तरम्। कृतवान्प्रचेतसः पुत्रस्तद्ब्रह्माप्यन्वमन्यत॥

etadākhyānamāyuṣyaṃ sabhaviṣyaṃ sahottaram| kṛtavānpracetasaḥ putrastadbrahmāpyanvamanyata||

Pracetā's son Vālmīki composed this poem, conferring long life, together with the future story of the deity and the Uttara Kāņdam. Even Brahmă admitted this.
