यः स्थितं योजने शैलं गच्छन्पार्श्वेन सेवते। ऊर्ध्वं तथैव कायेन गतः प्राप्नोति योजनम्॥ यस्मात्तु परमं रूपं चतुष्पात्सु न विद्यते। श्रुतः संनादनो नाम वानराणां पितामहः॥ येन युद्धं तदा दत्तं रणे शक्रस्य धीमता। पराजयश्च न प्राप्तः सोऽयं यूथपयूथपः॥
yaḥ sthitaṃ yojane śailaṃ gacchanpārśvena sevate| ūrdhvaṃ tathaiva kāyena gataḥ prāpnoti yojanam|| yasmāttu paramaṃ rūpaṃ catuṣpātsu na vidyate| śrutaḥ saṃnādano nāma vānarāṇāṃ pitāmahaḥ|| yena yuddhaṃ tadā dattaṃ raṇe śakrasya dhīmatā| parājayaśca na prāptaḥ so'yaṃ yūthapayūthapaḥ||
English Meaning
He that going touch with his side a mountain situated at the distance of a Yojana, and, rising up, measurə the same length, and whose beauty is surpassed by none among quadrupeds, is known under the name of Sannādana, the grand father of the monkeys; this intelligent one battlºd did he meet with discomfiture. This is that general of the forces. *There is a word, rane, in battle-in this line, left out on the ground of pleonasm.
